Welcome to the Central Texas Beekeepers Association.

We are beekeepers from all over the state of Texas, with the majority of our 150 members primarily located in the Washington, Waller, Austin, and Brazos Counties area.

Join us for our monthly meeting.

The fourth Thursday of each month, we meet at the Washington County Fairgrounds, in Brenham, to discuss and share beekeeping ideas, methods, and swap a story or two.

Our meeting begins with the Youth Apprenticeship lesson at 5:30 and anyone is welcome to attend these lessons. We typically have 12 or so students and 45 adults listening in. Following at 6:30, we share in a covered dish dinner with the meeting and featured guest speaker starting at 7:30.

OUR SPEAKER NEXT MONTH…

Mr. Howard Smallowitz

Howard will be sharing his “Nine Stupid Things to Do with Your Bees; Confessions of a First Year Bee Haver.”

OUR SPEAKER THIS MONTH…

Mr. Tom Shaughnessy

Mr. Tom Shaughnessy will be sharing information about Native Pollinators.

Tom has always had a passion for the great outdoors and our area’s natural resources. Tom and his wife Brenda moved to New Ulm 8 years ago and began their beekeeping adventure. He manages about 40 honeybee colonies in Austin, Colorado and Fayette counties. As part of his formal outdoor involvement, Tom is a Texas Certified Master Naturalist, Certified Interpretive Guide, Master Outdoor Leader with Texas Parks and Wildlife and former Vice President of The Friends of Stephen F. Austin State Park. Tom has held committee roles in the Annual New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce Honey Bee Jubilee since its inception and served on the Chamber Board of Directors. Currently Tom serves as Operations Director for The La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce.

When not tending to honey bees or restoring the natural habitat on his property he can be found paddling one of his kayaks on a Texas river, stream or bay.
